maybe it’s me… i dont get this one… gonna have to keep studying it.
it running joke in the comic that Henches are very poor shots, so when it hit a hole in the cape, it would mean it was close to a good shot. as for the last part, no idea. maybe memo did some back walking on her back to calm her down,
They are running miracle jokes today’s is Calming the Storm.
Calming the Storm.
Was my idea too.
Okay those explain the last two panels, but what does the first panel do in the joke? There’s nothing obviously crazy about the last two panels…
1. Storm is a common member of the X-Men. She is easy to identify.
2. Henchmen are supposed to be Stromtrooper marksmanship level. Hitting even the cape is way too good.
3. “The furious member of the X-Men” is Storm from the last panel (this panel is a Flashback to earlier this morning)
4. Storm says she is “calmer” now.
Storm was furious about being almsot hit by a hench. (She got a Cape wound)
So she came to the office to complain.
Memo “calmed the storm”, thus making his third miracle.
And in the now (last panel is flashhback) everyone is acting wierd, propably because Memo just made his third miracle that morning.
Atom looks like he’s acting crazy in the background.
people are acting crazy because he is kinda filling the requirements for the Christ myth.
A henchman got off a good shot (a miracle), and Memo calmed the Storm. (A bad pun on a miracle.)
Loved the last two, this one needs a bit to much thought and explanation to be funny. The memo is just falling flat now.
Sorry to make you (gasp) think.
Heh minor burn
The thinking doesn’t bother me, just took so long to get the pun and the reference that it lost the laugh. On the other hand my horrible pun about the memo (a piece of paper) falling flat slipped right by, thats why I’m not a famous cartoonist though:)
Just a question: how did memo actually “calm the storm”? No, “it’s a miracle” is not a valid answer.
[insert slightly off-color joke about how Memo was looking for a date earlier here]
PS: I enjoyed that pun
You do realise the Stormtroopers were the Elite of the Imperial forces, don’t you? Remember that scene with the burnt out Jawa Crawler? The only times they were, well, ‘crap’ shots was when they were shooting at the heroes or those damb furry teddy bears
being able to light a crawler on fire and shooting well require two different skill-sets(mostly depends on how they set it on fire, which is never mentioned.)
“The Memo is falling flat”, did you say? So, you think the character is just too two dimensional?
At least someone got it
Not an insult – just an observation:
These puns are probably a hit with christians, but for those of us that are not of that faith or have not read the bible – they’re falling flat & are quite confusing until we read the user comments.
This is probably how my family feels when I make a software engineering joke.
That’s it! Brad, give this man his money back for today’s strip.
Nightarix: Old Ben specificaly said the blaster holes were shot with precision, the ‘Troopers didn’t set it ‘on fire’, that was Old Ben and the droids burning the bodies
I got the calming the storm part immediately, but I still am not sure if there’s an additional pun with the cape (it is “holely” -> “holy” now, after all). Anyone have another pun there?
